Redevelopment of Former Train Station - Scalo Vanchiglia, Turin, Italy

Project: residential, mixed- use, proposal 2012

The former train station, Scalo Vanchiglia, is situated in Turin's historic industrial district. The proposed redevelopment plan for this neglected area aims to revitalize the zone through five key urban design initiatives:

1. Introducing new high-density mixed-use housing and public facilities.

2. Preservation and adaptive reuse of existing structures to accommodate new activities while retaining the industrial character of the area.

3. Improving the street network and establishing new infrastructures that prioritize pedestrian and bicycle transportation.

4. Allocating an expanded area for public green spaces to enhance livability.

5. Establishing active open spaces and workshops to foster social integration and promote the interaction of diverse social groups, including low-income residents, immigrants, and local communities.
