Sidon’s Historical Core and Waterfront Revitalization, Sidon, Lebanon
Project: proposal 2013
Sidon was an important Phoenician city located on a mainland promontory with two harbors.
An urban design project in Sidon aimed to revitalize the city's historic center, making it a vibrant residential and cultural hub for the local community and tourists.
The old city core is a link to Sidon's past, reflecting its social and cultural traditions.
To revitalize the old core, the project focused on reconnecting the settlement with the seashore, which had been lost due to the construction of a highway in the 20th century. The project also aims to protect the old city from uncontrolled vehicle traffic and improve infrastructure accessibility.
The intervention minimizes changes to the urban fabric, focusing on removing temporary structures and preserving the historical architecture.
